Chaves Thermal Spa launches the Therapeutic Thermalism Season with a community exhibition and new therapeutic offerings
The opening is marked by the inauguration of the exhibition “Between Colors and Stories”, developed within the framework of the Local Action Project for the Active Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups by the Municipality of Chaves. After recording the highest demand ever in 2025, reaching a historic record of more than 49,000 spa users, 2026 begins with the promise of new developments in Therapeutic Thermalism: hydrotherapy using galvanic currents and new short-duration programs.
It will be next Monday, February 2, that Chaves Thermal Spa officially opens the Therapeutic Thermalism Season. The launch will be marked on that day by the opening of the painting exhibition “Between Colors and Stories”, at 4:00 pm, in the lobby of Chaves Thermal Spa. This artistic exhibition was developed as part of the Local Action Project for the Active Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups of the Municipality of Chaves. The event will also feature a musical moment performed by the Chaves Academy of Arts. Admission is free.
According to Brigite Gonçalves, administrator of Balneário Flaviense, this launch also reflects the mission of the thermal spa. “The spa is, above all, a space for health and well-being, but also one that maintains close ties with the community. Starting the Thermal Season with an exhibition of this nature strengthens our connection with the territory and its people,” she emphasizes. The exhibition results from the Local Action Plan for the Active Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups of the Municipality of Chaves, a project focused on promoting thematic workshops aimed at developing personal, social, and cultural skills, encouraging active participation in the community and the well-being of vulnerable populations.
The new Season is also marked by innovations in the Therapeutic Thermalism segment. Chaves Thermal Spa will soon introduce Electrogalvanic Baths, an advanced treatment that combines thermal hydrotherapy with controlled galvanic stimulation. This technique, combined with the unique characteristics of Flaviense Thermal Water (particularly its level of conductivity), is recommended to improve circulation, relieve pain, and support rehabilitation processes, acting simultaneously on both upper and lower limbs and promoting a more effective and comprehensive recovery. Chaves Thermal Spa is also working with the Clinical Director, Dr. Pedro Cantista, and the hydrology medical team on the development of new short-duration programs focused on toning, relaxation, and stress reduction, as well as more specific responses aimed at women in peri- and menopause stages.
According to Brigite Gonçalves, the introduction of these new services responds to the evolving needs of spa users and to ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of the facility. “We are strengthening the therapeutic component with innovative solutions that complement traditional treatments and increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs, always based on the quality of our Thermal Water and specialized clinical monitoring,” she states. She adds that “our goal is to ensure the best possible response,” also highlighting that the spa was closed in January, as has been customary in previous years, “for a period of in-depth maintenance and the implementation of several interventions aimed at improving facilities, services, and the quality offered to spa users.”
These developments are expected to contribute to increased demand throughout the year, in line with the growth of activity at Chaves Thermal Spa. In 2024, 13,612 spa users were recorded, of whom 9,576 were in the Wellness area and 4,036 in Therapeutic Thermalism. In 2025, the total number of spa users reached 49,027 — a historic figure — with 44,873 in the Wellness segment and 4,154 in Therapeutic Thermalism, highlighting the diversity of the offer and its response to different health and quality-of-life needs.
“The data confirms the growing popularity of Chaves Thermal Spa, driven by the opening of the Aquae Salutem Thermal Complex, which significantly strengthened the Wellness segment. However, Therapeutic Thermalism remains an essential component of our offering, with a direct impact on people’s health and on the dynamics of the local economy,” emphasizes the administrator, also highlighting the importance of Flaviense mineromedicinal water and specialized clinical follow-up.
With the start of the new Thermal Season, Chaves Thermal Spa reinforces its position as a national reference in Therapeutic Thermalism and Wellness, combining tradition, clinical innovation, and programming that values the social and cultural dimension of the territory.
